Birthday parties at the beach are really fun.

They are a little expensive if you hire an outside caterer and lots of helping men but its well worth it.

Timing

Timing from 5 p.m. onwards are the best. Its great to watch the sun go down at the beach and all your guests coming one by one.

Proper planning is the key. Check out the weather forecast first.
If the forecast is bad but you still want to go ahead just make sure there is an alternative place to hold your party in case the clouds become unfriendly.

Not much can be done with the decorating stuff but the arrangement of chairs, the music and the atmosphere created can make the party look great and guests will love it.

2 things that are easy and will add a lot to the birthday party at the beach are music and games.

Hiring a band of musicians is not that difficult and will create an atmosphere will nobody gets bored.
Its best to have a background music being played than just keep the guests bored until they amuse themselves with a piece of the pie!

And coming to games.

A very exciting game to play is musical chairs.

On the beach there is a lot of space and the child participants will have a ball.

If your family and friends are the merry making type then adults can join in too.

A camp fire will add to the mood especially in the late evenings.

You remember everything only if they are recorded.

Also include a family photo session at the end and a photo of the birthday boy or girl with the loved ones and the grand parents is very warm and gives a great memory years later.

Your party guests will really get into your Pirate theme when you send them an invitation that looks like an old Pirate Treasure map…

Cut a brown paper bag into a square.

Then, with a black marker write something like “Captain__________’s (insert your birthday child’s name) treasure map”…

“Ye be invited to a swash-buckling good time matey… (then give the party date, time, length of the party and any other details) then close the invitation by saying something like…

“If you dare, you’ll be findin the party by followin this here treasure map… And remember this me buckos… “X” marks the spot!”

The map is actually directions to your party location and the “X” is the actual birthday party address…

Then crumble up the paper so your map looks old and mail it to your guest… You can even be creative with the envelope.

Cut the shirt sleeves to 3/4 length and fray the edge of the sleeves so they look worn… Cut the pant legs to 3/4 length and fray the edges so they look worn and “ship wrecked”.

You can make an eye patch out of a small piece of black card stock or black cloth… Attach a black string or shoe lace to the eye patch and tie it around your child’s head.

A wide black belt with a large buckle (you can make a buckle) can be cut to fit around your child’s waist.

You can complete your child’s pirate look by putting black smudges on their face with an eyebrow pencil. Smear it around to look like a beard on a rough pirate face.

Is party theme planning dead?

…as the smoke cleared the child asked:

”What did you wish for this time Mommy?”

And the reply: ”The same thing each year darling, the same thing”

Little did she know her Mother was crying out for a themed birthday party. She wanted a party she didn’t have to plan herself!

”I wished for a well planned birthday for me!”

The problem…

In a time poor world you can hear the sharp intake of breath as people steel themselves against a question as old as time:

”What are we going to do for her birthday?”

The question of a theme will inevitably get asked and if the Planning Person is not lush with time or flush with cash it might usher in card-cake-gift time.

No plan. Just reaction.

But is this reaction just?

What stops many a party in it’s tracks is a warped perception of time and money. Clever party theme planning is one way to side-step these obstacles and the good news is it can cost half as much and take next to no time.

All the while we drank snake-bite juice — green colored beer –, ate prairie dog vomit — mini pizzas — and cheered when they brought out the Rattle Snake cake. We sang C & W songs and howled at the moon on the way home.”
